A Few Reasons I'm Going To Start Packing a Notepad

Comments

I've seen a few toy camera shops and websites selling and pluging field books and note pads. Most of the time I just browse over them and think, 'pretty cool but I'm not sure about using one.'

Recently though, a few people have been talking about them here on the blog, and I just seem to keep seeing them and thinking about using one all the time. In fact, the more I think about them, the more sense they make.

So here are a few reasons why I think you should also consider getting a notepad for your photography bag.

Write Down New Ideas

Did you get an idea while you were out taking pictures with your Toy Camera? Maybe it was a new theme for your photography, or a hack idea for your Holga. Having a notepad will help you to keep track of all the little creative ideas that you have...and you won't forg....sorry what was I saying?

Keep Track of Experimentation

Probably the best use of a notepad, is that you can keep track of all the experimentation that you do with your film. You can make notes of the frame numbers and say what you did with them.

This will give you far more flexibility, as explained in the next point...

More Flexibility

Usually when I experiment with an Idea I burn a whole film. However with a notepad you have an amazing about of flexibilty.

As long as you are taking notes, you can pretty much run a new experiment on every frame and not worry about forgetting what you did.

You could use filters, do a close up shot, experiment with lighting and exposure time all on the same film.

Make any other notes

You could use your notepad to make any other creative notes that you don't want to forget. Use it for doodling on the train on the way to your location to get the creative juices flowing.

You could also use it to write down reminders.

So to conclude, a notepad is extremely useful tool for a photographer, expecially one that experiments a lot.

Bear this in mind folks!
