Make Your Holga Heavier!

Comments

There is nothing like the weight of a good quality camera. Unfortunately this is one of the few cool things that the Holga camera lacks...it weighs next to nothing!

Having more weight in a camera helps to increase stability to your shooting, which is pretty practical. A lot of people also think that having a heavier Holga completely changes the experience so you may want to try it just to see what you think!

There are a few locations inside your Holga that are good for adding weight. Personally, I think that the middle compartment is best, as that will mean your Holga will be balanced. I've highlighted the areas where I think are best here:

Remember if you want to stick the weights to the side, you will have to have the same on the other side as well to keep the camera balanced!

You basically have the option of placing weight below or to the sides of the light hole. (The square hole that lets light on to the film.) Find some dense items that you could tape inside here by looking around your house.

Do you have those draws at home full of old batteries, string and mini-screwdrivers? They are a great place to start looking for stuff to stick in...

Stick them firmly inside with tape, or if you are serious about this, use some decent super glue.

You might want to experiment with different items before you commit, to find the optimum weight for you!

Thanks for reading. I'm looking forward to trying this out once I get rid of the film that I currently have in my Holga. I urge you to try it out too and let me know how it feels!
